Keep your hearing aids away from heat.

It is important that, when you take your hearing aids off, you do not leave them near a damaging heat source. All forms of heat, from the heat emitted by the radiators in your house to that from sunlight, have the capacity to damage the delicate parts of your hearing aids. It is therefore essential that you put a protective cover on your heading aids when you wear them and do not place them anywhere where there is direct sunlight or a source of heat when you take them off. 

Replacing the domes of the hearing aid regularly.

It is advised that you should replace the domes of your hearing aids every 2-4 weeks. You should however check with you audiologist on how often you need to replace your domes as this differs depending of the type of hearing aid you have. 

There are several warning signs that you should look out for that suggest the dome or tubes are clogged and need to be replaced:

  • It becomes more difficult to insert the hearing aid.
  • You hear an unusual whistling sound.
  • The sound quality is reduced.

Always clean your hands before touching your hearing aids.

Keeping your hearing aids clean is prevents bacteria getting into your ears which could potentially cause an infection. Additionally, the dirt from your hands could reduce the efficacy of the hearing aid. Therefore, to keep them working at their best, ensure your hands are clean when inserting and removing the hearing aids. 

Keep the battery door closed at all times.

All hearing aids require batteries to function. In order to keep that battery safe and working effectively it is important to ensure the battery door is always closed. If it pops open it could reduce the sound application or prevent the hearing aid from working all together,
